Empower your weight loss journey with the help of GLP-1’s
What are GLP-1s?
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1s for short) are a class of medications that enhance the activity of a natural hormone our bodies already produce to regulate blood sugar, appetite, and digestion. The two most well-known in this group are semaglutide and tirzepatide.
Originally developed for diabetes management, these medications have become widely recognized as safe, effective, and sustainable options for weight loss when dosed and monitored appropriately. They are taken as a once-weekly injection in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm, with doses gradually increased over time. This careful titration helps maximize results while minimizing unwanted side effects. I always recommend starting at the lowest effective dose, as the body can build tolerance over time.
Semaglutide works by acting on the GLP-1 pathway, while tirzepatide combines this action with an additional effect on the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) pathway. This dual mechanism often makes tirzepatide more potent for weight loss and metabolic control, though both medications are highly effective options.
Is this right for me?
In my opinion, GLP'-1’s have the potential to change the trajectory of the obesity crisis in America. These drugs have been the solution for thousands of patients for which weight loss was not achievable, sustainable, healthy, or safe. However, if you suffer from one of the listed medical conditions, GLP-1 therapy may NOT be safe for you.
